This study was conducted with the aim of standardizing measures to evaluateplacentalconditionof combined thickness of the uterus andplacenta(CTUP) in mares Ardennees race between the 5thand last month of pregnancy being the first study of this measurement in this race type of shot, this it was developed in a stud farm in the region of Valparaiso, Chile. A total of 61 clinically healthy race Ardennees pregnant mares, chosen at random and with ages ranging between 4-18 years were ecografiadas transrectal to determine the ECUP, which was conducted by a single examiner during the season lambing 2009-2010. The measurement of this parameter was performed with ultrasound analog equipment with a linear transducer frequency 6.0 / 8.0 MHz. This procedure was repeated 3 times and with these measures an individual average was obtained. The results were described as mean and standard deviation. The average values obtained for each month are: 3.75 mm to 5thmonth (121 to 150 days); 3,98 mm to 6thmonth (151-180 days); 4.02 mm to 7thmonth (181-210 days); 4.50 mm to 8thmonth (211-240 days); 4.71 mm to 9thmonth (241-270 days); 5.02 mm 10thmonth (271-300 days); 8.10 mm to 11thmonth (301-330 days); 9.73 mm 12thmonth (331-360 days). It is concluded that there was significant variation in the thickness of ECUP in different months of the second third of gestation, and there is no major difference comparing these measurements with other horse breeds mentioned in the literature.
