Ethical Policies and Research Integrity

The Revista Educación, Saberes y Territorios adheres to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and to the Singapore Statement on Research Integrity.

Originality and plagiarism detection

The journal maintains a commitment to academic integrity and research ethics. All manuscripts received are subjected to similarity analysis using Compilatio software before being sent for external review.

Manuscripts showing an excessive level of overlap, normally above 20% excluding correctly attributed quotations and references, will be rejected or returned to their authors for correction.

Those submitting a work must attach a signed declaration of originality, guaranteeing that the manuscript is original and unpublished, that it is not under evaluation at another journal, and that it contains no plagiarised material.

Use of artificial intelligence

The journal recognises that generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools can support academic work while at the same time requiring safeguards of transparency and accountability. This policy is aligned with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

Authorship

AI tools cannot be listed as authors of a work, nor be cited as such. Authorship entails responsibility for the content, the capacity to approve the final version and to answer for the integrity of the work — conditions that an automated system cannot assume.

Author responsibilities

Declare use. Any use of generative AI in the conception, writing, analysis, translation or editing of the manuscript must be explicitly declared in a specific section of the work, stating the tool, its version and the purpose for which it was used. The use of spell checkers, reference managers and conventional editing tools does not require declaration.
Assume responsibility. Authors are fully responsible for the content of the manuscript, including sections supported by AI. They must verify the accuracy of every datum, quotation and reference, and answer for the absence of plagiarism and fabricated content. Non-existent or inaccurate references generated by these tools constitute a breach of academic integrity.
Safeguard third-party data. Confidential information and personal or sensitive data concerning research participants must not be entered into AI tools.
Images and figures. Images, figures or data generated or altered by AI are not accepted, except where they constitute the object of the study itself, in which case this must be explicitly declared.

Reviewer and editor responsibilities

Manuscripts under evaluation are confidential documents. They must not be uploaded, in whole or in part, to generative AI tools or to platforms that may store or reuse their content, as this constitutes a breach of the confidentiality of the process.
The assessment report must be written by the reviewer. AI cannot replace expert judgement or draft the report.
The editorial team does not delegate editorial decisions to automated tools; such decisions are always a human responsibility.

Non-compliance

Substantive and undeclared use of generative AI will be considered a breach of academic integrity and may lead to rejection of the manuscript or, if detected subsequently, to its correction or retraction in accordance with the corresponding policy.

Conflicts of interest

Authors must declare any financial, institutional or personal connection that may have influenced the development, results or conclusions of the work, as well as all sources of funding. They guarantee that the results presented reflect the findings of the research fully and honestly.

Reviewers must inform the editorial team of any conflict of interest with the authorship or the subject matter of the manuscript and abstain from taking part in the process where appropriate. Manuscripts under review are confidential documents and may not be shared, circulated or used for purposes other than the evaluation.

Authorship responsibility

All signatories must have contributed significantly to the development of the research and the manuscript. The contribution of each must be specified according to the CRediT taxonomy, indicating the role performed and the percentage of contribution.

Research ethics safeguards

Studies involving human beings must have been conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki or equivalent ethical standards. The manuscript must describe the ethical procedures applied, the manner in which informed consent or assent was obtained and, where appropriate, approval of the protocol by an accredited ethics committee, stating its name and approval number.

Research using personal or sensitive data must comply with the applicable national and international data protection legislation and indicate how the privacy of the information was safeguarded. The use of photographs in which people appear requires the corresponding authorisations and must not cause harm or detriment to those appearing in them.

The editorial committee may request additional documentation supporting the ethical and legal compliance of the study.

Retractions and corrections

Retraction. The journal is committed to guaranteeing the integrity of published articles and the confidence of readers, researchers and the scientific community. In the event of serious errors, misconduct or ethical problems detected in a published article, the journal will proceed to retract it in accordance with COPE guidelines. Grounds for retraction include, among others, plagiarism, fabrication or manipulation of data, serious methodological errors, ethical conflicts, duplicate publication and authorship disputes. The retracted article will remain available on the journal's site with a visible note indicating its status.

Post-publication correction. Where the error is minor and does not invalidate the main conclusions of the article, it will be rectified by means of an editorial note of correction or erratum. In all cases the electronic version will be preserved and notices will be given clearly and unambiguously.
